Smart Start: Driver’s Ed Program

ASAP is hosting Start Smart for the last time at Olympian High School!

Do Not Miss Out!

 

What:  This is a required pre-requisite for all OHS students that would like to attend our free online drivers education program.

Workshop is Presented by the California Highway Patrol that outlines teen driver safety and gives information about the process of obtaining a learner’s permit.

 

Who: Open to OHS students only who are at least 15 ½ years old, student must attend workshop with one parent in order to participate in our drivers ed program.

 

When: Tuesday, January 23rd at 6:00 – 8:00 pm at OHS MPR.  Please no children, and due to space limitations, only one parent and student is encouraged to attend.

Google visits OHS!

Google Visits Olympian High School!

 

On October 10, 2017, five Google employees came to Olympian High and spoke to 18 Girls Who Code members.  Carrie D’Ascoli introduced her team peers to the club:  Ariel Yin, Yanting Zhang, Michael Schwartz  and ​Blair Kutzman.  They introduced themselves and talked about their backgrounds as well as how they got started at Google.  One engineer asked the girls why they joined the Girls Who Code club.  One girl, said since she was a little girl she always wanted to work at Google.  She was fascinated at how innovative Google is.  Carrie also talked about “being googley”, which she defined as being honest, transparent, and accepting of others, always doing the right thing, and putting the user first.  The team offered to come back in the future to see the projects they are working on.

College Prep Day

Parents and Students,
College Day is this Wednesday, October 11th, an important day at Olympian High! There are going to be many activities going on!

Please read this information carefully.

Bell Schedule for Wednesday, October 11, 2017:

  • 12th graders report directly to the GYM, not to a class.
  • 7:30 – 7:50       9th / 10th / 11th graders report to Period 4  for  Announcements, Attendance and Student Movement to their activities
  • 7:57 –   11:25     9th grade activity  /10th and 11th  PSAT Testing
  • 11:30 – 12:00  Student Lunch

Buses arrive at 12:00

· Seniors WILL NOT be attending any classes. Seniors will report directly to the gym at 7:30 for a cap and gown assembly and the panoramic picture. Please remember our dress guidelines. Do not jeopardize the opportunity to be in the picture by wearing something inappropriate or being taken out of the picture due to uncooperative behavior. Seniors will be dismissed after the picture ONLY IF you bring in a signed parent permission slip that you will be job shadowing, doing community service, or visiting a college campus. The PERMISSION SLIP has been emailed out to 12th graders. See Mr. Patterson if you have any questions on this.

· ALL 9th, 10th, and 11th graders will report to their regular period 4 class. Since it is College Day, please wear a college t-shirt to school! We are on a modified day schedule with student lunch time at the end of the day from 11:30 – 12:00. There will be no nutrition break. The inside cafeteria lines will be open on Wednesday morning from 7:15 to 7:25 before school if you want to get something to eat before the day starts. Please let your parents know that you will be released early on Wednesday. Buses will depart school at 12:00.

· 9th graders need to bring your laptops fully charged! You will be listening to a presentation in the MPR and then doing a career survey online.

· 10th and 11th graders will be taking the PSAT test. You may or may not be with your Period 4 teacher, but report there first for attendance. Students will receive a pass if they will be taking the test with another teacher. Please bring No. 2 pencils, a 4-function calculator, and a book to read when you are finished with the test. Students will have to place their backpacks in a separate area in the classroom. No cell phones will be allowed on your person during the test. Please make sure to eat a good breakfast and get plenty of rest the night before. There is no penalty for guessing, so please try your best! You may be eligible for scholarships based on your score!

Senior Events and Activities

Important Reminders From Counseling Center:

There are lots of senior events coming up so be sure to make a note of what time and where you have to be so you don’t miss out. ALL seniors participating in the graduation ceremony must attend graduation rehearsal. Plan ahead and resolve schedule conflicts now (for example, talk to your boss about your work schedule now).

 

Official transcripts will be prepared for students who complete the “Official transcript request form” available in the counseling center. Be sure to note that you want the “Final semester” transcript. Students must plan to pick up final transcripts beginning the week of June 25 and mail them by the college’s deadline. Seniors planning to attend SDSU do not need to do this. SDSU transcripts will be sent automatically.

 

**AVOID SENIORITIS and stay focused on the goal of finishing strong. Transcripts are a permanent record requested by colleges, employers, the military, etc.

Lastly, if you haven’t already done so, stop by the college center and sign the “Class of 2018 – College Signing Poster” so that you can be represented and we know where your path will take you next.

**How to Clear Prom**

 

As of 9/2/17 there is NO LONGER a discounted “Senior Passport” option.

ALL senior items are now being sold a la carte at the regular rate in the ASB or online at the OHS Webstore.

LAST CHANCE for Disney Grad Nite Bus Preference Sign-Ups will be MONDAY 4/16 in the MPR after school from 1:40-3:00pm.

 

*Students will be able to sign-up for their preferred bus if they have:

  • signed permission slip
  • cleared with attendance (in attendance office)
  • cleared with library (in the library)
  • cleared with community service (Social Science teacher or Counselor)
  • senior privileges (must be cleared by the APs)

  • Senior Passport deadline: Friday, September 1, 2017.  No exceptions.

  • Senior Items/Events may NOT be transferred, exchanged, or resold.
  • Senior Items/Events are non-refundable. All events require prepayment and thus cannot be canceled.
  • Seniors must have a current Olympian High or California photo ID to purchase Senior Items/Events and to gain entrance to all activities.
  • Students with outstanding detentions, Saturday schools, library fees, and/or are on the non-privilege list will not be able to participate in Senior Activities.

Laptop Deployment Procedures

Laptop Deployment Information

Welcome students and parents,

Olympian High School will issue laptops to students in 9th, 10th, and 11th grade on the following days:
– 9th grade on Thursday, July 13th: Deployment- 7:30 to 9:00 and 12:00 to 3:00 after students receive their ID cards.
– 10th grade on Friday, July 14th:  7:30 am to 1:30 pm
– 11th grade on Friday, July 28th: 7:30 am to 3:00 pm

The following documents are required to be read by parents and students:
1. Mobile Device Policy                                      2. Mobile Device Loss/Theft
The following contracts must  be reviewed and signed by the parents:
1. Mobile Device Agreement (Eng.)                2. Mobile Device Agreement (Span.)
* Students must bring with them a completed and signed contract before they are given a laptop. No Exception!
* Students will be instructed to activate their account as soon as they receive their laptops.
* Students without an activated account will receive on hand support from IT and school staff.
