The Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) will conduct an accreditation visit of Olympian High School March 1 – 4,  2015.

The WASC certifies that each school is a trustworthy institution of learning.

All high schools in the Sweetwater Union High School District will also be visited during this February-March 2015 timeframe.

In preparation for this visit, Olympian High has been conducting a self-study process (Focus On Learning) that takes an in-depth look at what currently exists and what needs to be improved in relation to student learning and the school’s program.

Groups consisting of faculty, parents and staff have been conducting this in-depth look since November 2013.  These groups have examined the school through the perspective of the following WASC categories: Organization-Leadership, Curriculum, Assessment, Instruction, and School Culture.

As part of the self-study process, the following School-wide Learner Outcomes have been developed. These outcomes reflect how the school envisions Olympian students to be by the time they graduate, and compliment our mission and academic achievement in the classroom:

  • —  100% of students will exit their grade level “on track” for secondary study.
  • —  Each student will progressively learn to be fully responsible for his or her academic progress and success.
  • —  Each student will develop the necessary skills to support life-long learning and become a productive, ethical member of the community.

The Self-Study will eventually produce a series of action steps designed to further improve student learning. These actions steps will compliment the action steps already included in the school’s Site Plan.
